Correct CSC Rating System
The Civil Service Commission uses a weighted average system:
- Verbal + Analytical + Numerical = 90%
- General Information = 10%
Correct Formula
The correct way to compute your rating is:
Step 1: Get the average of Verbal, Analytical, and Numerical
Step 2: Multiply the result by 0.90
Step 3: Multiply General Information score by 0.10
Step 4: Add the results
Example Computation
Suppose you got the following scores:
- Verbal: 82.31%
- Analytical: 83.78%
- Numerical: 83.26%
- General Information: 86.46%
Step 1:
((82.31 + 83.78 + 83.26) ÷ 3) = 83.1167
Step 2:
83.1167 × 0.90 = 74.805Step 3:
86.46 × 0.10 = 8.646Step 4 (Final Rating):
74.805 + 8.646 = 83.451%
Your final rating is approximately 83.45%.
Passing Rate
The passing score for both Professional and Sub-Professional levels is 80%.
This means you do not need to get 80% in every section. What matters is your final weighted average.
Important Notes
- Focus more on Verbal, Analytical, and Numerical since they make up 90% of your score
- General Information still matters because it can help boost your final rating
- A high score in one section can compensate for a lower score in another
Final Tip
After taking the exam, you can roughly estimate your performance using this formula. This will give you an idea if you are likely to pass or need to prepare again for the next Civil Service Exam.
